The EHA Research Excellence Award is awarded for an extraordinary achievement or commitment to basic and translational research​.

The nominated person must have:

  • Made a valuable contribution to the field of hematology
  • Shown dedication to their work and commitment to furthering the field of hematology​
  • Been responsible for pioneering and innovative work in the field of basic or translational research

This award was formerly known as the José Carreras Award.

Alberto Orfao

Prof Alberto Orfao has been honored with the EHA Research Excellence Award for his groundbreaking work, which bridges basic and translational research. These contributions have both deepened our scientific understanding and opened new pathways for treatment across hematologic disease.
